It lies in the foothills of the Himalayas and is quite different from its Himalayan neighbor Kashmir, in quite a few aspects, like the weather, people, culture, religion etc. It has to be noted that the mobile phone sim cards that are in use in the rest of India do not function in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and hence on crossing the border to Jammu and Kashmir, need to buy and activate a new sim card that operates in the state. Jammu city is famously known as the city of temples. However, the best activity to do in Jammu in the afternoon as we reach would be to take a stroll in the park of Bagh-e-Bahu.

Chandigarh also has the distinction of being the only city in the country that is a Union Territory by itself and at the same time the capital cities of 2 states, Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is one of the earliest planned cities in post-independence India and is internationally known for its architecture and urban design. The master plan of the city was prepared by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier and was built upon earlier plans created by the Polish architect Maciej Nowicki and the American planner Albert Mayer. Most of the government buildings and housing in the city were designed by a team headed by Le Corbusier, Jane Drew, and Maxwell Fry. Chandigarh's Capitol Complex—as part of a global ensemble of Corbusier's buildings—was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Today Chandigarh is nothing short of a bustling metropolis, that still retains its charm and order as a well-planned city, that is extremely green with its tree-lined avenues and parks and neatly laid out streets as in a grid, called Sectors. Chandigarh is also a great place for shopping, and it is also notable that the liquor prices are the lowest in the nation here.
